Pretoria - a city in transition

Pretoria is the administrative capital of the Republic of South Africa. Some people call it boring - but there is no place where there is more sunshine in South Africa...
Pretoria is just an hour drive from OR Tambo International Airport. This makes Pretoria the ideal "point of entry" when you come to Southern Africa.
Pretoria is the little sister of its big brother Johannesburg - but Pretoria has definitley less crime, problems and other things you don't want to experience.
Pretoria is part of the Tshwane Municipality - so don't get confused when people talk about Tshwane instead of Pretoria. The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality (also known as the City of Tshwane) is a metropolitan municipality contained mostly in the province of Gauteng, South Africa, that includes the city of Pretoria. The municipality came into existence on 5 December 2000.

It is made up of 13 former city and town councils and is managed by means of an executive mayoral system. The size of the area is more than 3,200 square kilometres and it has a population of about 2,2 million people.

  The Church Square lies in the heart of Pretoria. It seems to have an magentic effect on tourists. The Square looks a bit like "old Europe" in "new Africa" - the old Paul Kruger statue in the centre, surrounded by the old "Raadsaal" (the parliament) and the "Palace of Jusitce". Quite strange place, but when you are exploring the city a nice place to have a look on.

  STRANGE place! Interesting and shocking...
  The Voortrekker Monument was build 1938 to commemorate the Boers who came here on their way to the "veld" - the open grassland.
  Inside the monument you'll find reliefs about the long "Trekk" the Boers did - including the victory over the Zulus, which some very conservative Boers still celebrate.
